bought my first picks - dont like them

I bought my first set of picks but dont like them. Ive been picking for a short while but I guess since I started out with my home brewed ones i cant get used to Picks that someone else made. They dont feel right in my hand.

Which picks did you get you, what dont you like about them is it like the handle too big or is the weight off?

Just keep at 'em twirl them around in your fingers or something, if its because you spent money on them that you want to use them thats the wrong way to look at it, you have to wanna use them because you like them....but getting used to them helps too.

its the 14 piece from the LPS. they seem strong. I guess they feel to light in the handle. Dont worry im still going to try them.

if you got the plain handles you could always wrap them in shrink tubing or use plastic dip.

Don't give up, just be patient. Whenever you get a new brand/type of picks there is a learning curve. They feel different, and you must learn to use them just like you did your homebrew picks.

I didn´t like the Southord picks when i got them either (used HPC first but they had been used for 10~ years so they were bound to break any second) but i got used to them after a few days.

When i ordered Peterson's slender i didn´t like them either. They didn´t have the metal handle like the southord had but after a few days and succesful picks i got used to them aswell.


So, what am i telling you? Don´t give up on your new picks, give it a few days and when you´ve gotten to know them a bit better you´ve forgotten about your old picks

I've got my little pile of Home jobbies, and a handful of some, well, knock-off brand picks I'm guessing, and it's nice to have my thin, light ones sometimes, and it's nice to have the thicker, heavier duty ones sometimes.

But then again I'm a fan of variety.

It's not like you have to learn to like them or throw them out, just keep them around and use them when you're bored or the situation arises where you think that the particular characteristics of your new picks suit.

i picked on my hommade picks for about 2 months. when i got my HPC picks it took me a really long time to get used to them. but in the end.. its worth it...

What i meant to say, is if you look around the site. You will notice how many members like to use sand paper on their new picks. You should check it out, it might make your picking experience more enjoyable.
