I'm new to this sport but not to pin tumbler locks in general. I received my little 11 piece set from Southord yesterday and when I had a few minutes I began picking away. I had already read most of the stickies and had a pretty good idea of what I needed to do to make this work.
First attempt was on a Kwikset deadbolt held in my hand, presto!!!! less than 15 minutes and it rolls over like butter. My question is about my technique. I insert the correct sized tension tool, apply light tension and use the small snake rake for a few passes and then switch to the half ball for a few more strokes and then start feeling with the half diamond and the small J hook and she opens right before my very eyes.
I guess this would be a mix of raking and SPP????? Is there anything wrong with doing it this way???? I'm more interested in getting the lock open than how I do it. I deal with a lot of apartments as a consultant and results are what I'm after. The faster the better in my case.
I went on to open several padlocks I had on hand as well as more deadbolts, Kwickset, EzSet and a National. They all seem to be about the same from a picking standpoint. I can do any of them in about 2 to 3 minutes now that I'm warmed up and stroking......
