how to??

New arround here, picking locks for the fun of it, but i`m european (portuguese), all the locks i have seen arround here are vertical, ie vertical key and vertical pins... assuming there are no unpickble locks, what tools do i need to pick this:

(sorry for using link, but cant put images of my own)

the key enters the plug forming a 90º angle with the pins... there is no space for the picks... where do i insert the torque? should i use some diferent kind of picks?

this kind of lock is very common, at least arround here... have one in my front door, the only one arround the house i still haven`t picked...

Looks like some sort of dimple key....do a search for these. I did a seacrh using 'dimple' as the keyword and found 50 matches.

Seems how you only have 2 posts I would assume your only wanting to know how to pick this kind of lock for nobodys own good.. Although, I will tell you that, that kind of lock is very hard for people new to lockpicking.

you might want to think about it a bit more before accusing someone of
wanting to do something illegal based only on the number of posts they
have.

You will notice that figo has posted an introductory message in the
appropriate place and that his/her post in this thread doesn't have any of
the batancy of the usual "DUDE, HOW DO I STEAL THIS CAR!" posts like
we sometimes get.

about me steeling... well, not the case, just a "bricolage" adict that likes to pick locks (for the fun of it, like i said) only have two posts because i only registered yesterday and still havent had the time to do some more, but you will hear from me again

Most people that are new to picking ask about MasterLocks and other easy stuff.. but dimple lock right off the bat. ? hrm.. just sounds suspicious..

I dont think its suspicious it just that what he sees a lot of in his part of europe. Remember the differences across the world.

well, i am not a thief.

i have picked all the doors arround the house, except the one in the front door, i didn`t even knew what kind of lock that was... i searched internet just with "key" as key word and tryed to find one like that to post, now i know what it is. thanks for that. didn`t ask nothing before for the reason said above, didn`t registerd earlier, because i saw what i needed in the mit guide, in pyro`s video (realy neat, by the way, already made some nice picks, still having problems with the torque though, they all break or bend). Some one talked about tape foil method... i`m not sure i got the point, but i got the idea that it was some kind of way to make a key that suites and opens the lock, i wanted to know what kind of picks to use, pin by pin, that is what i like, done the search and i think i found something. the point (at least in this case) is not just to open the lock, i have its key right in my pocket, the point is picking it, nothing else.

you use a keyblank, with all the dimples drilled to the maximum depth (plus a shade of a tiny bit of a hair deeper).

then you apply duct-mending aluminum tape to it, insert.
read - this is NOT duct tape, its like foil with adhesive on it.

its in one of those videos with the guy and the projector - too lazy to look it up.

essentially - the tape overlifts all the pins, and jiggling indents the tape with the pressure from the pin springs. At the shear line, where there is no longer any pressure on the tape, it holds its form, and keeps the pin at the correct height. just a matter of patience to get it open.

it took the guy about a minute or two to do it in the video, and I imagine it would be annoying to have all the dimple key keyblanks...but assuming you had them, it looks to be a breeze.
