Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

what does it feel like?

I can pick any regular lock such as master #5s and regular dead bolts. Im board with those and thought i would try to pick a brinks max security commercial padlock(no model # listed on the package). My question is = how does setting a security pin in the lock feel different from a master #5. I know this is a hard question to answer but work with me.

Depends what type of pin it is.

Doesn't the master have spools? I'm not sure.....I, unlike most, didn't start with masters....I started with Abus mid range locks & they had spools which give you a lot of feedback through the wrench in the way of rotating the cylinder back when you lift the pin.

But yeah, find out what pins the master has, and also see what the brinks has......then you can learn how the different types behave against each other.

:)

the master has no spools, no security pins. The Brinks Max Security has spool pins. I believe it has two spools.

I'm not much good with them yet but like snowy said, with spools you will feel the plug turn back as the spools rise up into the bible. Setting a spool will often un-set another pin or more. You might have to pick each pin several times before opening the lock.

I guess just messing with it is the best way to get it open

Well I know my Abus inside out now.

The sequence is 1 2 4 3 5 then 3 again.
