EDIT: locking this thread because phpBB3 completely killed the script. I will have a new, improved, working script sometime in the next 10-20 years that might work with phpBB3. I'll make a new post when that happens.

(Thread moved to Pick-Fu)

This is for mods who use Firefox and/or Greasemonkey:

This link will always point to the newest version of the extension: http://neutronstar.org/tmp/lp101spamcontroller.xpi

Greasemonkey-only version (if the extension doesn't work, you'll need to install Greasemonkey and this script):
http://neutronstar.org/tmp/lp101spamcontroller.user.js

Current Version: 1.7.4 as of 5:56PM MDT, 9/25/2008.

Changelog:
v1.7.4: Updated "MaxVer" to keep Firefox from complaining until it hits version 4.0.
v1.7.3: Killed Supporter T-shirt graphics on right side of tables to avoid interference with trash icons.
v1.7.2: Restricted domain to lp101 only; Adjusted XPath in searches to only focus on table rows with "TRASHCAN" in them.
v1.7: Removes table rows for topics that have ALREADY been moved to the trashcan to prevent clutter.
v1.6.1: Minor tweaks.
v1.6: Got search modifications working.

Quick rundown of what this does (and I can't take the credit, because I only made a couple of basic modifications to an existing script): in the old days of moderating spam, I had to click the spam, see the porn that came up, click on the move icon, wait for the new page to load, uncheck "shadow topic", select TRASHCAN from the dropdown list, and then click "Yes" to confirm I wanted to move the post.

With this script installed, there is a biohazard symbol on the right side of every post/thread on a subforum. When I see obvious spam (Subject: BIG B00BS ETC.) I click on the biohazard symbol to the right of the spam post, and I'm done. It gets moved to TRASHCAN (though it looks like it's still in the original forum until you refresh the page) and that's that. Simple!

Limitations: Due to extreme customization this will only work reliably on lp101 forums.

EDIT: I used adblock to get rid of the "supporter" banner on the right side of the forums, because otherwise the icons from the script overlay it and you could accidentally click the wrong thing. One of these days I'll implement that directly in the extension. (Fixed!)

EDIT 2: This no longer needs to be a sticky since it doesn't work with the new phpBB software anyway.

For those of you who don't yet know the joys of greasemonkey, I've converted the script into a standard Firefox extension. Click on the following link to install:

UPDATE: http://neutronstar.org/tmp/lp101spamcontroller.xpi

This version works in FF3 and should still work in FF2. Please, God, work in FF2. I also modified it to work on the searches. This means you can hit "View unanswered posts" and enjoy one-click spam removal to TRASHCAN without messing around with the shadow topic checkbox, etc. Due to this, be careful you're clicking on the right message. This script will currently ONLY work on lp101, so don't try to use it elsewhere; if you're still logged in to lp101 in another tab, your clicks in another forum WILL translate directly to threads on lp101 being moved to trash, so don't do it.

UPDATE: http://neutronstar.org/tmp/lp101spamtest.xpi will let you test removal links without committing changes. The icon looks like a check mark in a box, and when you click it you'll see something like "http://www.lockpicking101.com/modcp.ph?t=30804&sid=4fdfd7284a9fe633df9052b6d9cd42b2&f=22&mode=move&confirm=Yes&new_forum=22". This is one letter short of actually moving a thread, but it's safe to use. The "t=" line should match the same line on the topic's subject (hover the mouse over it and it will appear at the bottom of the browser). The "sid=" should match the sid from any of the other links on the page, but you can hover over "Log out" to check it. new_forum will always be 22, which is the trashcan's ID. Don't run this and the real spamcontroller plugin at the same time, or neither will work.

I rewrote the script (2 long weeks to learn some AJAX!) to work with Firefox 3 betas. If you're running FF3, use this one for now:

EDIT: deprecated by lp101spamcontroller.xpi (link above)

Limitations:

1. Currently only works on lp101. Other forums you mod will not work.
2. Fixed: Only works when in one of the forums (general chatter, etc.). This means you can't search for 0-reply posts and just kill the spam that way. You have to be in the forum first, then click the icon next to the spam post to move to trashcan. This is due to some other change in FF3 (getelementbyid, I believe) which I haven't pinned down yet. Eventually this will work just like the FF2 version, but this is way better than the state it was in last week.

Feedback welcome, especially if you know AJAX/javascript.

EDIT: well it turns out that there was a bug in the CORE:JavaScript engine in the FF3 betas which they've now fixed...and the old script works fine with the newest nightly build. Good thing I spent so much time troubleshooting the script!

Here's my retarded problem; I'm retarded and I exacerbate this condition by using ubuntu linux exclusively. I need to know how to get this thing running under my system, using firefox or iceape. Is it possible?

SFGOON: Should work fine, just install the .xpi file right into firefox (if you can't do it by clicking, save the .xpi and drag it onto firefox).

Please see the first post for an updated link.

Who all is on the spam control team now? I want to farm this out to them too. I guess I could just post it in general chatter...the script won't do anything for people who aren't logged in with mod access anyway...

EDIT: Script is flawless now.

Extension is complete and 100% functional on all sections of the site as of 6am mountain time (GMT-7). Please use the spamtest extension to test with Firefox 2.* to make sure it works for you before going live with the spamcontroller script.

Version 1.7 (link in first post) is ready. This version will remove table rows for topics that have ALREADY been moved to the trashcan, for even lazier modding (before, I had to look down the topic column and when I saw obvious spam I had to glance to the left to see if it was already in TRASHCAN. With this script removing those rows, if I see an obvious spam topic at all, it hasn't been moved yet). Script doesn't actually re-flow the tables, so for example if you search "unanswered posts" and it turns out all but one of the results are in TRASHCAN, you're only going to see a table with one entry. Pulling the other non-trash entries from the other 152 pages of unanswered posts would be far too messy, time-consuming, and likely error-prone.

Moar doofis kweshtuns:

Do I need greasemonkey to make this thing work? I managed to re-install Vista :x on my box dual booting with Ubuntu, so I may switch to windows for modding purposes, as this add-on 1. Seems cool as hell and 2. Refuses to work for me.

Sorry for being a moran - I can't help it.

That's strange...it should work normally. Do you get any errors in the error console?

If you install the newest greasemonkey extension you should be able to use the script directly with it: http://neutronstar.org/tmp/lp101spamcontroller.user.js

EDIT: Sorry, the way I named it is confusing to GM although it would still work with a little black magic. I corrected the name in the link (and linked in first post) so that theoretically you should be able to just install GM and then click the link, at which point it will ask you if you want to install the script. Let me know if it works out for you.

Moved to Pick-Fu and stickied, mainly because it's a lot easier than sending it to new spam control dudes every time another one is appointed. :)

If you don't have moderator/spamcop privileges on the board, this script will not do anything for you at all. If you are a mod/spamcop, it makes spam killing a whole lot easier. Please PM me with any questions or problems.

I just upgraded to XP and didn't know how to install the add on for Firefox. That is one neat trick. First dragged it to the task bar icon, and was told to hold it there for a few seconds. Did as I was told, and I am back on top of the spam. Awesome file!
