I think thats called an unhealthy obsession.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

You know you're a good lock picker when you can teach two deaf girls how to pick a lock after drinking so much that it takes you five minutes to realize they are deaf.

Heh, I am NOT a good lockpicker and I have done all 3 of these. Heck, I have even been to an "adult novelty shop" with my girlfriend and I was spending a little too much time looking at the handcuffs. At first she thought I was thinking about kinky stuff, then she realized that I was just hopelessly thinking about the lock that is used in them and how to pick it.

While you were looking at the handcuffs, what was your girlfriend looking at? :P

(wondering how offtopic this thread is threatening to become)

You know when you're a good lockpicker when you come home drunk, realize you've lost your picks and decide you'll have to use the key instead.

You know you're a good lockpicker when: you can set your friend's skis free from a rooftop carrier they lost the keys to and you have to hang off the vehicle and it's snowing right down the back of your neck.
Nothing is so embarrassing as watching someone do something that you said couldn't be done.

Ok this one is a bit long winded, but you know you're a good lockpicker when...

as a right handed person, while holding a live cricket in your right hand and being careful not to squish it, you can fish a jackknife pickset out of your right front pocket using your left hand, remove the tension wrench with your teeth and open the pick set one handed, and with your left hand only, pick the padlock that is securing the lid of the cage holding a tarantula that is the classroom pet, all so you can feed the aforementioned cricket to the tarantula. Because you were too stupid to remember to open the cage before catching the cricket.

Not that this happened to me or anything. This is all purely hypothetical.

And before you jump all over me for picking a lock that was in use, it was my bloody lock on my bloody cage. And I had a spare lock, as well as a set of bolt cutters in the car, so I was more than able to correct the situation if I had ended up screwing up the lock. Hypothetically. Because like I said, nothing like this has ever happened to me. Ever.

When you can pick a lock with improvised tools cut from a soda pop can faster than it would have taken to drive 5 minutes back to the shop to get the pick set left on the workbench. Not that this has eve happened to me! ;)

(Disclaimer - I am a locksmith by trade and I ALWAYS have full permission by the customer, once ownership is established, to open their locks. If ownership or authority cannot be established or proven, then the lock will remain locked - PERIOD!)

You know you're a good lockpicker when you watch a sci-fi show and recognize the "futuristic" key as a plain old Abloy blank.
