brinks lock

Postby superchicken » 11 Mar 2008 19:21

I have a Brinks weather proof pad lock. It has a blue plastic cover with a cap to cover the bottom where the key goes. PAT.3858419

My question is are there any security pins and spools.

I got a brinks at walmart. Shrouded I think is whats it called. I found a picture of the pins on this site and its full of security pins. I have yet to be able to pick it. Im pretty impressed for a 10$ lock.

light tension

Postby raimundo » 14 Mar 2008 10:28

with these locks, its all about the tension, and the tension is light.....be aware of the reverse turning plug effect of spool pins, no lock shows it as clearly as the brinks locks. when you have the plug hung up at a few degrees turn, on the spools, push up on each of the pins, start at front or back and go down the line, let the tensor push back against you if it starts to, and if you drop some spool pin hangup or whatever, don't think about it, thats part of the game, keep picking. do not become so invested in some pin you have gotten to hang up that you think its falling back down is a big defeat, all it means is there are some other pins you should work first.

Brinks may have tightened up their tolerances recently, but the security pinned models I've played with were reasonably easy to work with. More or less like an Abus pin tumbler cylinder, but a bit easier to pick. I personally, on security pinned locks try to almost decode the lock, keeping track of about where the real shear line is for each pin, even if I have to take notes like: "#3 is near max depth" or whatever. That way, you can know about how far to lift each pin to be sure to be past the security features. Now, obviously, I'll try picking without a concrete plan first and hope for the best:-) But if that fails, and reverse picking the pins downward fails, I start taking notes.

Brinks lock

Postby lokpikr999 » 28 Mar 2008 15:58

This lock was a ***** to pick when I first got it.I easily got the false set,but I couldn't identify exactly which pins where binding. After I did find the binding pins,I could pick it in 10 seconds or less.
