Do you have anything like a 99ct-store you could go to?
Here they have some very easy (no name) dimple locks and the keyway allows for a small half diamond and you can manipulate the pins with that.
picky, picky ;)

dimple picks

Postby mr_chris79 » 26 Mar 2008 8:49

well i had a go at making some picks from junior hacksaw blades and wasnt happy with any of my efforts, the theories work im just used to fabbing things with a hammer and angle grinder so i decided to pm LockNewbie21. Hes making a set of three double sided picks for me so i asked him to make one of them a deforester one side and dimple tip on the other side,in the meantime il keep trying to make my own... i can see alot of blades dying in my hands...

Dimple locks

Postby fjardeson » 26 Mar 2008 21:29

I've popped a few of these. I have one thing to pass on:

SMALL MOVES.

Use a small diamond and use 1/2 the vertical motion you'd generally use. Some dimple locks, like the Alpha if you're lucky enough to see one, have 16 pins but only two possible pinnings for each barely .1 inch of motion (the key is either Dimple or No Dimple in each position)

:)

Postby mr_chris79 » 27 Mar 2008 4:07

thanks very much fjardeson, thats a good tip that im going to try it later today once iv murdered some more hacksaw blades! when you say half the vertical do you mean slide the pick in on its side then twist to lift the pins? :?

Hi There, here in sunny spain most of the Euro Profile Locks are of the dimple kind. i have ha most success with a slimline half diamond, standard half ball and in many cases just the handle of a tension wrench.

Insert the picks to the side of the pins at 90 degrees (sideways) to the norm, and with slight tension rock the pick pushing (or lifting) the pins untill they set. False sets from security pins give the same feedback as any other lock.

Using the handle of a tension wrench as a pick apply the tension the usual way and rock the picking tension wrench and slowly withdraw it from the lock, if no success try the same but with a slight up and down movement at the same time. I am often supprised that this works.

Remember that the movement of the pins of a dimple lock is very small compared to other pin tumbler locks so be gentle with them.

The key is to use very little tension, and of course lots of practice. Some dimple locks i have will open if i sneeze on them too hard, others can take a long time.

If you are in Europe and can get hold of Euro Profile locks heres a few poiters for practice locks.

Azbe - Usually very easy to pick.
Abus - Good feedback from the security pins, quite easy to pick.
Amig - Pain in the @ss but good fun all the same.
Tesa - Good Luck! (but possible)

With these makes of lock I'm talking about the 10 - 20€ price range.

Hope this helps you out a little.
Steve.
