IRC/mounting

Heya all, this is my first post here. So be nice xP

Firstly, thanks for all the information available here, it's been an immense help in the opening stages of what seems to be a very addictive hobby.

Now for the questions, I've used the Search function, but I've been unable to find the answers I'm after.

1) Is there an IRC channel for this community, I've seen IRC mentioned a few times, but I can't seem to find a channel or address.

2) I've seen mention of lock mounts/stands/boards, do they make it easier for beginners, and if so, are they normally brought or made? I can't seem to find any information about them except in passing.

Lock boards do not necessarily make things easier for beginners. Picking a lock while holding it in your hand gives you more feedback. What a lock board does is give a simulation of real world picking, with the lock mounted to something. You will not likely find one already made for sale (short of a hobbyist selling theirs). But they are simple to make with a hole saw attachment for a drill. they are nothing more than a board with the locks mounted to them, not that you can't make a nice looking one, but essentially they're just a board.

I got some lock boards from a hardware store's closing auction, and they are very nice for door handles, but you sure can get by without them.

It was a great way to get a bunch of cheap locks though!
