Got one of these guys today from Big-Lots (a clearance type department store) It was marked $1.99 down from $6.99...so I HAD to get it   But anyway its a beefy lock, 6-pin and on the package it lists "resists picking with anti-picking pin system" it seemed REALLY easy if it had security pins...and kinda hard if it didn't...(its HEAVY)

It has a removeable core with a screw down the shackle hole(thats gonna get qouted  )

I was just wondering if anyone had/has any of these...I haven't opened up the lock body...dont think i will for awhile...SO any security pins in there if you know...or what...it a good deal for $2 :D

ok so i have the silver one in the pic i posted....and i went ahead and took the screw out and took out the plug...ok so now the plug has what looks like a pin that keeps it from turning more than 90 degrees...just wondering how do i remove that pin, or how to get the pins out...

hope that makes sense.

I have a couple of those. They are an American Lock knockoff. They have 2 spool pins. I've forgotten what the plug retainer was like on it, I think it was a simple C clip. Remove that first then insert the key, turn the plug about 45 degrees and push it out with a plug follower (you can make one out of cardboard if you don't have a proper one). Once the plug is out set it aside where the pins wont spill out of it. Now pull your plug follower out until it lets one pin and spring loose, keeping your finger over the end of the cylinder so the pin and spring cant fly away (they will and they're hard to find in carpet). Keep going till you have 'em all out.

If you haven't already, read the sticky on pinning a lock first. It goes into more detail.

A video here as well

lol, I didn't even notice who the original poster was when I replied. I had to scroll to the right to see the whole thread and cut off the poster's names.

Had I known it was you I wouldn't have suggested reading the pinning tutorial. :)

Maybe someone else will get something from it.

I'll have to dig my lock up. I think it's still disassembled. I destroyed one trying to make a cutaway.

set pin

Postby raimundo » 8 Apr 2008 9:29

Are you describing a pin that holds the plug inside the lock body or cylinder? this would be perpendicular to the plug and it will go toward the shackle hole that you removed the screw from when disassembling it?
In some locks this pin which allows the plug to turn 90 degrees and no more can be gotten out by tapping the lock so that it falls into the screw hole or at least pulls out enough to remove the plug.

Now im starting to wonder if I havent misunderstood the problem.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

ok I hope this will clear it up for eveyone(i hate explaining things, im bad at it  ) when you get the core out of the lock body there is a groove along the side of the core shell and some kind of pin(that rides th groove) that only lets the plug turn 90' and i cant get to it from the inside of the keyway i.e. nothing to make it fall in on itself.....and I cant get it out by pulling it, i tryed some different things to pull it and its no good....and i didnt want to mar it up so i stopped till further advice could be had.
