need a new padlock....any suggestions?

hi all,

i need to buy a new padlock to secure a shed i have in my backyard. i need something that has a protected shackle and preferably something that is hard to pick.

i have a lot of stuff in there that doesn't fit in our garage, and its well worth spending some money on a decent lock to protect all that stuff as much as possible.

i have read that all padlocks can be defeated relatively easily, but i also have read that some are much more secure than others. so, what do you guys suggest?

You probably can't afford nor find this lock, but I thought I'd post it anyway... my friend's dad got it from one of his friends that works at a military base, they couldn't find the key for it so they just gave it to him... it weighs roughly 3 pounds and from what I felt It has nine pens!!!

I think you should be more worried about someone with a hammer or crowbar than someone with a set of picks, most burglars wont take the time to learn to pick dont go overboard and buy a padlock thats worth more than what its protecting.

Things like the door and sides of the shed. Take these things into consideration. It's true that most burglers are not going to be using a pick but more likely a crowbar or bolt cutters. Depending on what you feel is enough will depend on your spending.

My choices would be either a brinks shrouded padlock, a puck style lock or an abloy padlock. The brinks shrouded is much cheaper and very available. Puck style locks don't have an exposed shackle, for manipulation resistance get one with a medeco core. You'll probably have to go to a locksmith or you can probably get a deal of ebay. Abloy's aren't sold in places like walmart but they're as secure as you're going to get as far as manipulation resistance. You'll most likely find them at locksmith shops or occasionaly on ebay.
