Hi guys

has anyone got any experience picking the master padlock 150 DLJ? I'm having trouble with it and could use some advice.

well if it has a 3/4 inch body it has 3 pins and if i has a 2 inch body it has 5 pins. Make sure if its the 5 pin model you are getting to all the pins, it sounds dumb but if you think it only has 4 pins you may never try to get to the 5th pin.

What pick are you trying to use, and what are some of the problems you are having?

Hello,

well it's the 5 pin kind and I'm using a hook pick.

The first pin stack is acting differently to anything I've encountered so far and it's quite hard to describe.

I can see both the key and driver pins in the keyway, when the pins are lifted they don't fall once I remove the pick even though i'm not applying any torque.

If I then shake the lock a little the key pin falls back down on it's own.

Both pins drop when a clockwise torque is applied, the direction i'm using to try and pick it.

The whole thing is confusing me about the torque I should be using.

it sounds like the lock may be filled with gunk. Try some 3in1 light machine oil, i understand that works the best.

I've read a few post on lubrication and after reading them i tried using silicone based lubricant ( I had previously been using graphite) which in my opinion is just the job. I would clean out the lock first with a cleaner that does not leave a residue behind. I use a clutch cleaner spray which works for me.

I came up against one a 150 recently on a job. It was really tough to pick, much to my surprise. We ended up just drilling it because the customer was getting impatient. Made me want to go buy one and give it another shot. You might want to try bumping. It uses the MA7 keyway I believe.

Out of all the locks I own its the strangest in the way it responds. I haven't being picking long and have had success with some master locks but I didn't think this lock would be so tough.

I've tried a bit of oil to get it going but am still having no luck, I've put it to the side at the moment and am working on other locks.

I think I have a bump key that fits it so i'll also have a crack with that.

I've opened it finally :o

I ended up using a hair pin as a tension wrench to give me more room to move the pick.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
