Aluminum Tape impressing

Postby Wolf2486 » 15 Jul 2004 23:39

I've seen in the H2K video about opening dimple keys by cutting the key depths extra deep and then wrap aluminum tape over it and then insert it into the lock and jiggle. However, what I want to know is if this works on basic pin tumbler locks. I do not know if the springs would be strong enough to push the tape down. If anyone has advice, ideas, or stories of using this method on a pin tumbler, your post would be greatly appreciated.

It works, but you need special tools to do this. Key insertion and extraction is not trivial. Search for Foil Impressioning for more info on what others have found to work well.

Thanks for the info, but I've read that forum before I posted this one. I do not wish to impression a key by looking for depths. I want to know if it is possible to just wiggle the key for a long time and eventually the lock will open. I've manage to make a key and buy aluminum tape, extraction was easy enough, but the lock never opened and I tried for a half an hour. Eventually my fingers started to blister so I stopped.

Oh it works. You just have to be patient and try and try and try.

if you just wiggled to almost the point of getting blisters.. you gave up too soon! keep working on it!

No actually.. I've not tried this.. seems interesting... I'll have to give it a shot...
