Tool review: The Staddon roller pick, for Chubb 114/115

European hardware -lever locks, profile cylinders specific for European locks. European lock picks and European locks.

Staddon

The short version: Firstly, use a blank key cut to number 8 lever height. Insert and turn the key using pliers to the 2 o clock or 10 o clock position, depending on which way the bolt shoots. Then using the reader key cut down some blue-tack afixing it to the reader and take a reading of the levers. Depending on the lever number, they will give you guide as to what size roller pick you need to use. Then it's all in the wrist and the correct tension.

The rollers raise while turning and should open the lock if you have read the impresion correclty.

Plastercine is supplied, but frankly its c**p. Use blue-tack and keep the chambers well luricated (also supplied).

safe ventures v staddon 114 pick

Postby pinky » 16 Jul 2004 15:04

i have both the staddon and safeventures 114 picks, the safeventures pick is far superior and easier to use, i average 5 to 6 minutes an opening with the safeventures pick, it is better constructed , easier to use , and more effective, you cant beat 100% effective , which this pick is.

the staddon pick is fine but outdated by the safeventures pick which is why wholesalers now can sell it, it isnt 100% effective, and i know a few locksmiths who have come to grief with the staddon pick by winding up the No 1 pin when in the lock, its now almost impossible to remove the pick without damage.

both picks are now £300 + vat , only the safeventures pick works 100% of time. it is the Chubb 3G110 pick thats £400 + vat.

Staddon Roller Pick

Postby joecrow » 24 Sep 2004 3:03

I have tried the Staddon Roller pick but failed each time to decode the levers. I have tried various quantities of plasticine and pressure and each time the impression has not given me a usable code. Any ideas what i am doing wrong? The manual that came with the too sisn't help at all!

hi

the safe ventures pin and cam is much easier to use than this one.
you get 4 pins with this kit , the 1 pin is for the number 1 lift, on no account wind this pin up otherwise your pick is stuck in the lock, this refers just to the number 1 height.
pin A refers to a number 2 or 3 height , pin B refers to a 4 or 5 height, pin C refers to a 6 or 7 height and the picks bit refers to height 8.

you take the plastercine impression, no mark at all refers to a 1 or 2 height, a short mark refers to a 3,4 or 5 height and a long mark refers to a 6 , 7 or 8 height.
