electro eching of picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I make PCB's so etching is a big part of that.

Something not mentioned here is that for a resist you can use a Permanent marker. you know the kind Sharpies.

Draw with one of these where you don't want the metal etched off and it won't be. you can get fine details this way.

For those wanting to do this but don't want to use electricity there is a chemical Ferric Chloride that does the same as the saltwater/electricity. however be warned that you need to keep that ferric chloride at about 150 -160 degrees. If colder will take to long and will eat through any resist. If hotter will eat under the resist.

Also you need to wear a mask eye protection and be very careful of splashes.

i mention the pen because you can get a lot finer details using one of these. draw your outline with a marker and then fill in the other areas with paint nail polish etc.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned but if you use Acetone to clean your metal before putting on the resist you will get a much better bond between the metal and the resist. rubbing Alcohol removes the permanent marker easily.

for etching letters logos etc just get yourself one of those Laser T-Shirt transfer kits you Iron on and watch closely to remove the metal before it eats to much.

I'm sorry i should have mentioned that if you do use ferric chloride you should properly dispose of the waste.

Once it has been used there are metal salts contained in it and it becomes a hazardous waste.

check with your Municipality on how and where to properly dispose this stuff.
