Remember this isn't a high school playground, this person is looking for a professional way to resolve the dispute, not escalate the problem.

Jeez...

To prevent this happening again go ask your most verbally persuasive friend to teach you to be persuasive so that the next time someone bails on Cod (cash/money on delivery) you can be like "I've got kids to feed, you see it works, now pay me!" :D

i read this and wonder is word of mouth advertising dead. i know some costumers are a pain in the neck. But taking the time to humor them may spring money in the up and coming days. I may be crazy but i would set a appointment to clear any miss concepts. and tell them that you would be grateful if they would have the money in hand to settle the account. it will help in the long run plus you may get to see what the old man tried to fix"broke"

Y'know it all depends.....on many different factors......word of mouth...works if your referee remembers you.....bu I'm finding that more often customers prefer to find contractors thru service agencies on the web,......they dont really care about recommendations....they dont want to be told....they prefer to read testimonials.

Word of mouth might work well in a smaller city....but bigger cities really dont give 2 hoots, IMHO

Well, maybe across the pond, but here in the Netherland everything installed or delivered at the client's adress is his proprety after you leave. Payed for or not.

Even leaving the grounds to bring your tools to your car is considered leaving.

I've once tryed to remove doors i installed, when the client told me they where not paying C.O.D. They called the police and i was escorted of the property by two big cops.

Had to go trough collecting agency to get my money.

Thank you for your replies. It helped me a great deal. After installing and then being called out again, I was promised payment. WELL, I was finally paid 4 days later. This was after another friendly reminder. The domestic worker had dissappeared and the baby had to be hospitalized and and and.

So I empatised with her(recommended a good doctor) and after being promised payment that same day, recieved it only two days later. PAYMENT appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must have been in some financial difficulty and was stalling, as Raimundo stated.

Some of your responses really made me laugh, breaking a key and supergluing the lock.

I spoke to a lawyer about removing the work I did. I was told that if I went on the property uninvited, I will be breaking and entering. Something I don't intend doing.

The job was for close to $500. Quiet a big amount and a large inventory expense.

But alls well and ends well. I got paid. I learnt a lesson or three.
Thanx for your feedback :D
