I would say get that crappy lock off your door and put the schlage in it's place. Then practice on the kwickset a bit more. Then get a Schlage deadbolt to try. Schlage are far from impossible but they are a different monster than Kwickset. I have come across some Kwickset that would simply not pick. Then again I have a time limit and outside factors like stress, anger and how tired I am to add into the factors on the job.
If you have a older kwickset on your door it could be way easier than a new kwickset would be. So that is another option. Get a new quickset to practice on and see if it is still as easy to do. If so then move onto the Schlage. Just don't give up, you can do it. Remember that there is a slightly different way to pick a schlage with spooled pins over a standard quickset.

I like the idea of replacing the door lock with the Schlage! I've got a few Master padlocks and a mystery door cylinder (and the Kwikset on the house) that just seem sooo easy to pick. I wanted a greater challenge but not something impossible! I do think taking the lock apart and playing with only one or two pins at a time until I get the feel for it... you spool pins!

I like to think of the glass as being half full...of bastards.
