Titan locks?

Postby pkunicursal » 16 Oct 2003 10:14

The side door on my house has both a Titan deablot and a knob lock. both of which are easily picked. But my question is is Titan its own brand? Or does another company make it. I did a google search and it seems that maybe it would be made by Schalge. Soemone have an answer?

As far as I am aware, Titan is a brand under the Kwikset name.

Here's where I think the info is:

Hope this helps.

thanks. I think mine may be discontinues though. How much of their "Highest Residential Security Rating" is based on pick resistance? Because it was not at all hard to pick.

*cough* Umm..well...depends on your definition of "Highest Residential Security Rating". Since Kwikset doesn't really have a UL listed high security system that I'm aware of, the only "security" they really have is the same as any average deadbolt, and knobset.

That is, their deadbolts probably have a 1" throw with a ball bearing or some other device to prevent sawing of the bolt, a "security" strike with 2 1/2" screws to help prevent forced entry.

The knobset probably has a deadlatching feature like every other exterior door knobset, and has some resistance (like every other locking mechanism) against fire.

It is extremely unlikely that it has anything at all to do with pick resistance. After all, consider the price of these things.

Hope that helps.
