Many years ago I was taught how to pick other kwikset locks with any kwikset key. I had locked myself out of my apartment and somebody taught me as they picked my lock. I tried it several times in a row and did it.
Well, my 3 year old daughter just locked a door to a bedroom in our home that has a kwikset on it, to which we have no key...we just moved in. It is my teenage daughter's room and she needs to get in it. The windows are double locked, so that is not an option.
Will somebody please remind me how to do this, because I tried and did not succeed. If this is not allowed to be told publicly, will you PM me please?
With much appreciation and sorry if this post is something that has been covered. I did search, but could not find it.
Thank you and blessings.

Okay, I guess if nobody can answer this for me (my daughter wants to go to her youth group tonight and her shoes, etc are all in her bedroom so I would like to get it picked before 6:30 our time if possible.) Otherwise, my hubby when he gets home late will have to remove the doorjamb.
Can I buy basic lockpicking instruments from a local hardware store or anything? I am in Fairfield, California. Thanks for any help.

Either A) call a locksmith or B) bust the lock and buy a new one, the Kwikset is probably worth only 20 USD (is it even this much?).
Can't help you more than this, as you have A) no picking skills and B) this is bordering the guidelines/rules of this forum.

No, not really..
With what your asking, and seeing as your a new member, you want to know how to easily pick/bypass a lock that most residences in the US use (stupidly for the matter also)
Best thing to do is give it a swift kick, as interior doors are mainly a flimsy sheet of wood, cardboard and are pretty cheap... But don't try that with a exterior door.
We are not trying to be unhelpful, we just do not know your actual intentions, as many persons have come on here with the same/some "type" of issue, and never asked anything ever again- so we know what they were really trying to do.
Hope you understand, and good luck.

Get a hammer and a long nail and remove the door jamb yourself.

I understand. We ran out of time to get my daughter to her youth group and since we needed to replace the lock anyhow, since the former resident's don't have a key to it, nor do we...
I grabbed one of my hubby's pipewrenches and turned it, opened the door, and then removed it. My husband cracked up when I called him at work and told him how I resolved the issue.
However, thank you for the help and I truly do understand why nobody wanted to come forward with info, I just thought it was worth a shot. I watched videos online about how to pick it, but honestly, I am not strong enough to bend tools into those shapes, so it was never going to happen anyhow.
Thank you again so much for your kindness and blessings to you, Julianne

Also, if anything I have written in any way compromises the integrity of this board, please delete my posts. I surely do not want to help criminals in any way.
Since I am here and you all know I am IGNORANT...can you give me a few really good brand choices for our front door dead bolt and lock. I used to hear Schlage was the best, but now I have read things that make me wonder if it is to pick too. So which brands should I look for, as the former owner has Qwikset on our front door here and we need to replace it. Thank you!

It really just depends on how secure you want, yes if you want the best unlisted has given several outstanding suggestions. If you (like oh so many others) just need enough security to keep you safe at an affordable cost i like Schlage. Doing things like replacing old strike plates with more high security ones is going to help with things like kick ins (that being the majority of how bad guys get in your house) as well as doing simple things like making sure you locks are actually locked when you leave the house (that means windows too).
Most people do not need medeco or abloy locks on their door, have a chat with your local locksmith about your concerns about security no matter what they may be and see what they think. More than likely they're going to try and find you a solution thats going to fit your needs.
