Duct tape for grip?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Duct tape for grip?

Postby Auswahl » 19 Jun 2008 23:58

Has anyone tried this?

Like...using that heavy duty black tape and wrap a thin layer around the handle? Think it would provide some nice ghetto-grip.

Thoughts?

so it works, you say?

Lately I have resulted to methods of hand-protection because my picks are badly shaped (lol).

So i tried wrapping a long strip of cloth around my hand.

Why do that when theres tape?

What type is it?

Can I get it at Target? Wal-mart? Home Depot? Lowes?

1. File the edges of your picks so they're rounded, not squared off.
2. Pick up some Plasti-Dip for a couple of bucks at your local hardware store.
3. ???
4. Profit!

I would try heat shrink. Looks cleaner than tape.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

When duct tape gets old and worn it starts to shrink and fall off. This leaves behind the adhesive that gets on everything and can be quite difficult to remove. I'd recommend against duct tape for long term use as a handle wrap.

Step 3: Add heat shrink tubing, and shrink it tight, add some more if you want a thicker handle.

I've done this on all of my favorite home brew picks and a few comercial ones. I like it because It feels great on the fingers. As a bonus your picks are now unique.

Now if I could just figure out how step 4 works...
10 Print "circular reasoning works because "
20 GOTO 10

gaffers tape. it comes in a myriad of colors, and it's designed to stick -very- well, and then come off w/o residue.

it's used in theatre and film to hold down cables for a production and then not leave them gummed up 4 hours or 4 months later. i use it or gorilla tape 95% of the places i used to use duct tape, which really only goes on ducts now.
