im 15, m and i live in ca.
i dont have a grinder, and i can't purchase over the internet. is there any way i can make homemade lock picks for a standard lock without using a grinder? thanks.

Can you make picks w/o a grinder? Yes.
Can you make quality picks w/o a grinder? Probobly not.

You might be able to fashon home-made picks out of thing by bending them (like a paperclip), but they are not going to last long.

Well, you could try a dremel tool, but that is pretty much the same thing. For about $40-$50 U.S. you might buy either one from a hardware store. If you don't wanna use a dremel or a grinder, then get a set of files and start filing!

Filing will take you a long time, but if you put the energy into it you can still make quality picks. I did this before I had access to a grinder and I can tell you that it is hard work, but if you are only making one or two picks to start with then this might be your solution! As you read more of the posts you will find plenty of information on this site

don't forget to sand them up good or they will slowly wear at the pins in the lock. I learned this the hard way just like many of the other people here.

If the search is working, give it a try and see what else you can dig up

Hehehe I just re-read what I wrote.... The hidden point in there is that a dremel tool and a cheap grinder are almost the same cost In my previous post I said you can buy either one from the hardware store without clarifying that I meant either a dremel or a grinder, oops

Dremels have their use, but I prefer a small bench grinder. Much quicker and I end up with better shapes... I use dremels and files for snake rakes that need it, but with the right shape on your grinding wheel, you can make a pretty good snake if you practice. Dremels can leave you with a rough edge and a lot of sanding to do...

Do whatever it takes to make the shapes you want though, of course!

I make picks by using a regular handfile and grind down bike spokes on 2 sides so they are flat enough to fit, then file/bend the tuip any way I want. Very cheap (1$ for a bike spoke, maybe 5$ for a hand file) but also takes alot of sweat.

I made my first pick from that flimsy metal used for I/O templates in the back of ATX cases, cut with tin snips. (Half diamond).

Lasted several weeks of regular use. It still works, although I've long since retired it.

heheh I used one of the expansion slot covers, but it was to soft. It did pick a couple master no. 1's though! Some Pick-Fu might be involved, hehe
