Help picking a practice lock =D

Postby LockPickerJoe » 21 Jun 2008 0:04

I have a Gatehouse Single Cylinder Deadbolt it's a grade 3 lock but what the hell, I have gotten open a automotive lock and a few others but this one is a pain. I am not sure if it has security pins or not because I am hitting the pins and putting a bit of tension on the cylinder but she wont budge I hear the pins click also when I get them locked in but when I let off a dash of tension they reset so yea. If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it. This is a practice lock also I learned that and built myself a Dummy door =D. But yea I hope someone can help me figure this out. Thanks again guys.

I have a few Gatehouse locks. They are schlage knockoffs but they are well made.

The cylinders I have are 6 pin cylinders. There are 3 spool pins in each. They don't require any special technique but the tolerances are pretty tight. Keep the tension light and feel for the spools.

If you've never picked a lock with security pins you'd be doing yourself a big favor by taking apart this lock and setting it up with just 2 pin stacks, one standard driver and one spool. Get a feel for the spools before going in head first on a fully pinned lock blind.

Good luck.

+1 there. I had no idea how to handle spools until I made a cylinder with one spool and one regular and picked it about 100 times.

wow, no wonder why it's so hard to pick I believe it was only 5 pins on this one but I am going to take apart the lock now and try what you guys recommended. Thank you guys very much!
