I tried picking it for around 5 minutes but the tension wrench was sliding and moving in the lock too much for me to get the plates set.

Nce job It is a "real" double sided lever lock key - different cuts on each side to address the twin lever packs, and only goes in one way round.

I found this lock in my basement (with out a key) so i popped it opened. to see the inside
I found it interesting

I've seen this this on many mailboxes and I and by the look of the keyhole,I always thought it it was a double wafer lock.Guess ya learn something new everyday

I'm sorry I had to do some wholesale editing in here, but my reading of 18 USC s.1704 indicates that it is illegal to manufacture keys for USPS locks. The exact terminology is "knowingly and unlawfully" but the code doesn't say what it considers unlawful, exactly. My interpretation is that you don't want the Postal Inspection Service breathing down your neck either way.

Again, sorry to butcher posts, but I don't want anyone who may or may not be interested in making keys for his own lock to get into trouble.

I once found a postal lock that had been broken apart, it appeared to only have one lever pack, so im surprised to notice that this one had the double sided lever pack. the one I had, I tried to make a key for, and found that there is a type of automotive spring that I believe is used to steady the roll down windows that in spite of some curvature, will fit the key hole as this is a heavy steel spring with just the right stamped in curve in the center of the spring.
