dissassembling locks

whats the easiest way to dissassemble locks? o.O i wanna pull apart my brinks lock and fiddle with it, but i can't figure it out, any resources i should know about?

Google for the locks manual on the manufacturer web site. I recently repinned about 40 locks for an event, and that was my best source of information.

There are several guides on LP101 that you can find with the help of the 'Search' feature.
It's a wonderful thing and will help you many a time with something you may be having trouble with.

But, since I'm here, I might as well do a quick run-down of the disassembly:

1. Remove the circlip at the back of the lock with a screwdriver or pliers
2. Pick the lock or use the keys and turn the cylinder 90 degrees in either direction
3. Pull the cylinder out the front, minding the pins that may fly out the back
4. Remove top and bottom pins, then replace with combination required.


There are other ways of doing this, but I find this way the easiest for me.

Keep in mind that the guide posted just above is mostly for deadbolt style plug removal... others may be different. and it may also help, after you remove the circlip or retaining cap (clip or screw on thing at the back - you may have to depress a retaining pin to unscrew a retaining cap) to put something in as a makeshift plug follower to avoid the pins flying out thing... rolled up cardbord to approx the size of the plug will do.
