criminalhate's Homebrew Picks (Big Pic's Dialup stay out)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Well I figured I should post a few picks I've made

A few I've made and are proud of the pictures are not that great but they do what is needed.

I know I've made quite a few more but they usually end up getting screwed up while I'm making them. I finally feel I know what I'm doing with a hand file and dremel =)

(Mods if they are to big let me know and I'll resize them or delete this post and send me a msg to repost with smaller images)

Nice looking picks. What are the handles made of and how is the feedback?

I wish I had green heatshrink  Nice job on the thread. The few I have tried like this never come out so even. Do you use a little glue first?

Thanks everyone =)

To apb
The handles are shrink wrap tubing and a length of 22g wire wrapped around them.

To Auswahl
I've made probably about 50 different picks these are my last couple attempts that have actually turned out. Keep working on them and yours will probably look better then mine =)

To LN21
Thank you your picks are what made me actually decide to give it another go at making them.

To raimundo
even though he hasn't posted here =P
a special thanks to him for his many posts on how to use a file the right way. After wasting a lot of material using a dremel and just tearing everything up. I spent about $15 on some good files and now I can actually make a pick that doesn't break because it's to thin or is the wrong shape.

Very nice picks you got there CH.

I also like how you incorporated the wire beneath the shrink wrap, just from looking at them they seem as if they would be comfortable for holding.

Again, very nice work. :)

I actually started doing that on all of my metal files. It really makes it comfortable without letting them slide in your hand.

Windshield wiper inserts, shrink wrap and some wire. Windshield wiper inserts are some of the best steel I have found cheaply and easily.

Had to post again to say I like the lines on the bottom pick of the bottom photo. The way the pic shaft is recessed from the tang with the small round file give it a tighter look I like. It's inspired me to try something similar. Also, the gradual hook side of your two sided has a good flow. Most of mine are this same style of heatshrink handle, but I hate how it slips when my hand gets greasy. Thanks again for the great example of a wire wrapping to attack this problem. Gotta go give it a try, minus the awesome greeness...

I ended up "borrowing" that idea from LN21. He did that on a few of mine and I really liked how it looked.

Pm me where you live and I'll let you know how much shipping would be on some green shrink wrap if you want. It's only $3.10 for a 3 foot length of it. And I cant see shipping being to much because I could probably fold it or cut it into a legal sized envelop.

I forgot to answer this one.

No I just use the shrink wrap to hold everything together.

No problem.

I was assuming it was string or cord like I have tried. I try to put on the proper heatshrink and it would move my cord. I used glue, but it took too much and still didn't look that slick. You are using wire. A good solution.
