Help Brinks R70 Max Security Disk

Postby nomercy » 24 May 2008 22:05

I did a search on here and didn't really get much info. Also, I watched videos on youtube about this lock. Still no luck. I've tried several methods. Just that I'm new so my SPP skills lack. Any advice for those who have popped this one? If possible SPP tips and tension tips. Trying to advnce my skills. Thanks!

What he said.

The hardest thing about the R70 is getting the tension correct. You need much more tension than with other locks. Did you notice how much harder you have to turn the key compared to a standard lock? Transfer that amount of tension to your wrench.

The keyway is also very small so use your smallest hook or half diamond pick. Finally, if you are a true beginner, put this lock away for awhile and get something easier. It's not a good lock for newbies.

kryptonite

Postby raimundo » 25 May 2008 8:30

much of brinks are copies of american, someone handed me a kryptonite copy of an anmerican padlock and the key last week, the key turned hard but there was not a spring pushing it back, they problem was probably tightness in the turning post that pushes the balldogs out, it also had a strong spring to shoot the shackle up when unlocked, and this may have pressed on the balldogs. There was no actual return spring on the plug.

this is significant, because some locks will allow you to pick them but by resistance to turning, you are unaware of it being in a picked state.
The plug has turned just enough to let the top pins onto the step, but the actual boltwork is turning stiff. this is also common in the discus type locks, it can be picked and stiff turning, the answer to this is to try to turn it a bit with a small screwdriver after you stop picking and before you let the tension drop.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

Ooh, I love this lock. I have one and I was having a little difficulty at first when I got it. I couldn't get the pins to bind. I eventually found a list of locks for someone who picked locks as a hobby and he mentioned that you have to use a LOT of tension. After reading that, I put a lot of tension on it and popped it very quickly. This lock has a spring behind the plug, from what I have been told. It pushes back on the wrench quite a bit. Push the wrench until it stops turning the plug, then let off the wrench a little and let the spring push back. You still want to be able to feel the pins, so don't let off too much. You will figure out how much through trial and error. Great lock. Have fun. BTW, I think I remember reading that it has security pins. This hasn't caused me any serious problems, but it might also be noteworthy.

Yes it does FFV. You can actually see one of them. Not certain if it has more. My picking skills haven't imporved enough to tell lol. Sad I know but I'm trying. Gonna do the kwikset deadbolt method from DB and remove pins and learn. Still I try this lock when I'm riding in the car or what have you. Good info FFV. Can you explain more on the spring in the back? I understand how basic locks work but not quite sure what you're talking about there.

It basically feels like the plug is pushing back on the wrench a LOT. It has a very interesting feel to it. I actually didn't even realize this has security pins until I read it on here. I just kinda picked it and it worked. I don't know, maybe I got an easy one, but I think it's a very fun lock.

The R70 was impossible for me there for a while, I had gotten it a bit sooner than I should've :) I've since opened it a lot, mainly with my snake pick, most of the time in one rake too!

There were only 2 security pins in there, not sure if they were spools or not. Are there any padlocks with mushroom pins in it made by Brinks?
I was once told, to "destory a scientif in a Fenrir".

I have since then looked at life differently.
