How do they make padlocks?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

How do they make padlocks?

Postby WOT » 27 Jun 2008 22:19

While inspecting padlocks I often think, how on the earth did they drill a hole in that position.. or how did they put it together?

Does anyone have "How They make stuff" type article on padlocks?

I seem to remember that there was one of those "How it's Made" segments on how laminated padlocks were made. I'm sure it's floating around the internet somewhere.

On a side note, it was recently brought to my attention that the master 3 padlocks have 6 rivets in the top of the lock but only 4 that seem to go all the way through. Does anybody find that odd?

only bad thing bout laminted padlocks with the rivets is you can saw off the rivets in less time than it takes to pick the lock half the time and just pull the lock apart O.o; i watched my unkle do it with a flathead screw driver and a hammer XD

master #3

the master #3 and many other models, that are held together with only 4 rivets, there is an almost punched through hole that looks from the bottom like a rivet head, this is just put there by a punch press to look like a rivet, its psych fakery to discourage attempts at cutting it apart. to cut one of these apart, best way is a hacksaw at forty five degrees to the edge of the lock and cut till its through the rivet, then do the other corners on the same laminination,

A quick google search can always help you find what you need.
Although, seeing as I'm such a kind person, I did it for you

That should help.
