I first heard the term convenience key in about 1964 when Ford began its new double sided key. It was convenient because it could be inserted either way. Since then many other manufacturers have produced wafer locks with double sided keys that are convenience keys and not true double sided keys.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.
