Hello!
I was thinking of starting putting little stickers with my company name and phone number on the locks I sell and install. I was thinking of putting them right above the bolt or below the upper screw hole next to the manufacturers logo., so when you open the door, it will be visible. There are two reasons. Warranty and of course advertising.
So what do you guys think? Is it appropriate?
If the customer doesn't want the sticker on there they can peel it right off-no problem,
but if he/she doesn't mind it, next time they need a lockey, the phone number would be right on the door
Thanks a lot!

The biggest lockshoppe in my area actually has all his keys made with his logo and shop name on them in addition to marking every lock he installs and services with stickers that have the shop name. Good advertising and appropriate I think.

Yes. making keys with your logo if common even in my country.
My concern is that places like Public offices, hospitals, museum, schools etc want to keep the looks descreete-looking and don't want advertising. And if for a big project I stuck them on there and they would have to be removed later that wouldn't be very professional and show me in a good light.
If I ask:"can I stick ma advertising on your locks?" There can be different answers:
Sure, go ahead!
Absolutely not!
Well ok, but since we are giving you advertising space, how about giving us an additional discount for it?-That,s the answer I fear the most.

Forget about putting little stickers on your work unless you do alarms. Then you can have ones that say "alarm installed and monitored by your shop name". Just make your customers happy, that is the best advertising you can get. I don't think a lot of people will got for having a sticker on their shiny new lock.

Very good point. The sticker idea is on conceptual reevaluation and theoretical implementation once again.

Make sure the receptionist has a small stack of your business cards. Not sure how effective advertising on a lock will be, as it would have to be small enough, etc. but if the receptionist and someone get to talking about locks, he or she will be able to give them your card.
Making sure your name is available to people who ask about your work is an important part of advertising that people sometimes overlook. Because the folks asking are going to be more likely to follow up than the folks not noticing your sticker on a lock.

not to be funny but... if they need to call you and cant open the door, the sticker will be useless
but seriously, i agree that some big businesses and public places would rather not have you advertise on their lock, but if you were the guy for my house and/or a neighbor needed a locksmith, i wouldnt mind your lil sticker on my door.

We had stickers made recently with our logo, contact name and details. It is the width of the door and about 10 cm in length. We had origanlly made it for business premises doors, so if the person is locked out they can just get our details by viewing the sticker.
This is a good form of advertising but as freakparade3 states
Just make your customers happy, that is the best advertising you can get.
but I also see this as an advertising form that can just help the marketing of you business.

I second the motion to mark the keys you distribute with the system. Either pay to have keys coined with your name and contact info on them, or have a stamp made that you can put on neuter bow keys.
As far as stickers go, you'll see a lot of glass doors with a "Push" or "Pull" sticker on it with shop information on the bottom...

I think that an easy way to advertise/leave your number for lock trouble would be to (in a commercial setting) see about adding the PUSH and PULL signs to doors. Depending on where you buy them you can have your business name and number added to the bottom of the stickers.

Having your business name or info on a key is an excellent idea. This way you can market your business. You can also check if the key was really cut by your business if there was a problem with it. I must add that this has not happen many times, most cleints will tell us that the key was cut elsewhere and if you can maybe check it since its not working. There will always be a few that will try their luck and we were absolutely sure it was not cut by us. We will just cut another to appease the cleint.

If I understand correctly, when they open the door the sticker is right below the bolt, and you seem to think that if they need a lockie, then they're going to call you.
What if they're locked out of the house, and don't have x-ray vision?
Then how will they see the number?

Yeah well I didn't say my idea was perfect
Besides 80% of lockouts in the area go to us anyway. Just thinking of extra ways to market us.
Right now we have our logo on the Integrated Intercom Systems and electronical access systems anyway. There are instructions on the devices which we wad printed in our language (Estonian) cause the originals are always in some other language and just happened to drop the company name on there too.
Another thing we do is when a person buys a lock from us (In a box), we always drop our business card in there.
As to giving business cards out to customers... Don't we all do that anyway?

We do the same thing. The main reason is so that if a customer comes back with the key they claim we had cut for them but didn't work then we'll know for sure if it was really from us or not. If it has our name and number stamped on the key then that proof and we'll re-cut the key for them or give them a refund.
We do on occasion get people who bring in "defective" keys claiming that we cut it and it doesn't work so they want "their" money back. A couple of times people had brought back Axxess keys cut at Home Depot or Lowes trying to get a "refund".
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Another idea is have a sticker the width of door or just below/ above the lock facing outside. This sticker could be about 5 cm in length and 3 cm in width. Most that I have seen is black writting with a clear back ground and when stuck to an alliminum door, looks like it been "engraved" on the door. This way the person locked out can see all your details. I must admit I only saw this on business doors. Get in good books with the manager of the business and this could be a graeat form of advertising. I believe in any form of advertising can only do good to your business.
