Abus 85/30 and 55/40

Pictured below are my only Abus locks. The lock on the left (85/30) i received about two months ago and have picked it a bunch of times although im not consistent with it (i expect that there are at least a few mushrooms in there) and the concentric keyway makes for a nice change from my other locks.

I decided to pick up another Abus (55/40) so i ordered the one on the right off ebay expecting a similar challenge. I am surprised at the difference between the two locks - they are very different in many respects.

The lock on the right does not have a concentric keyway which is not what i was expecting, instead its keyway is more like a master 140 - and guess what, it opens like a master 140 too. I popped this bad boy in like 5 seconds with no trouble, huge false set, one security pin. The cylinders are also quite different in size, the small lock actually has a larger cylinder.

Why does such a big difference exist between two seemingly similar locks? Has something changed with regards to Abus's manufacturing over time? Did i get lucky when i picked up the smaller 85/30?

how much are these type of locks, if i was interested in getting one?

I bought them both on ebay for about 2.50$ each plus shipping from different sellers. The one on the right is pretty common and i think there are a bunch up right now for sale at that price, the one on the left would be a bit harder to find i think.

All the Abus locks here in the UK are similar in key-way design to your 85/30. My guess is right hand one is a US model.

Heres a pic of my 60/50. It too gives an huge and awesome false set however I'm not sure how many security pins it has. More than 1 though. Bought in the UK, new for £5.

I guess the reason for the simpler keyway is as usual related to manufacturing cost. Lesser tolerances required or something like that.

BTW, the term for the property of the keyway seems to be "paracentric"
