What lock is this?

Postby mischieftech » 19 Jul 2008 13:51

When i moved in to my apartment I was told that the previous owner installed this giant lock on the door for extra security. when they moved out they took the keys to it with them.

Ironically, my first attempt to pick this lock got it open in under 5 seconds. So much for extra security eh?

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of lock it was. There are no markings on it anywhere to indicate the make of it.

Its a segal style jimmy-proof drop bolt. The rim cylinder probably isn't too much of a challenge, but the locking mechanism adds a great deal of security, as it makes the door extremely difficult to pry.

Get a decent replacement rim cylinder (Medeco, anyone?) and this would be an excellent lock. Keep the old one for pick practice! 8)
