Practicing picking @ home depot/lowes

Has anyone ever bothered asking the managers at home depot or lowes if it is alright to pick the locks they have on display, with the understanding if you break it you buy it.

Just wondering, since they have a great display of locks just begging to be picked.

I really don't see that conversation going well.....

(salesman to customer) "This is out super secure deluxe model of schlage lock"

(customer looking at you) "What's that guy doing"?

(salesman) "He's picking it open, so can I wrap that up for you"?

I'm sure both Home Depot and Lowes would enjoy the chance to be named in a liability suit when their locks start failing due to bent springs, brass shavings in the mechanism, etc. No harm in asking them!

I would be very surprised if either Home Depot or Lowes would repackage and sell their display-mounted locks. (?)

However, I do have to agree with freakparade: you have about as much chance of getting permission for lockpicking in the lock display as you have for getting permission to let your pet termites play in the wood display. :wink:

well, you could also say take it the other way. Do you buy a car without "kicking the tires". Do customers not test/handle equipment before purchasing?

There are always 2 sides to a conversation.

lock != daughter either...I see where you're going, but locks and children are not even in the same universe.

the question was just a question and proposed just to have a conversation about it. I seriously doubt an HD mgr or whoever would allow it, but you never know unless you ask

Four locks, side by side. Scorpion, Abloy Protec, BiLock, and a curtained 10 lever euro lock. :lol:

you guys need to watch "Surviving History". Those guys make ancient weapons and other things. They made a chastity belt and one guy wore it around.

I have 2 daughters and understand where freakparade's mindset on the chastity belt. I for one opt in getting my daughter a CHL and letting her know how to handle herself. When in doubt "it was self-defense officer"
