Any suggestions on a good car opening kit

Postby Raelic » 27 Jul 2008 13:31

Anyone have any suggestions for a good kit. I have around $500 to invest.
So far I am thinking of http://www.hpcworld.com/CarOpeners/o_akk-fl.htm or http://www.pro-lok.com/pc-26-1-akcom00- ... e-kit.aspx

Anyone have any advice to a complete starter kit that will last atleast a few years before upgrading. I am getting ready to start a small side business doing auto lock outs. Just completed to foley-belsaw course.

Thanks for you expertise

I second the suggestion of High Tech Tools. Z-Tool is also useful in that it helps keep things simple but it is geared more towards individuals who are more experienced in unlocking cars. High Tech Tools is great for beginners.

$500 is a lot to spend on car opening tools.

Why not save your money and purchase the YA-501 kit from Snap On tools.
Comes with instructions for most cars too.

I'm sure you'll find a truck in your area......it wont have a long reach tool....but they are really easy to make.

Personally, I have been in the business 25+ years and I rarely use anything but 2 airbags, a slim jim or two wires or a long reach tool.

Just my 2c.

That actually looks like a pretty decent kit.

http://www.hightechtools.com/

Can anybody tell my what the gadget is on the left side of the picture is use for. We use the airwedge and what a great tool it is.
But the other gadget is a bit puzzling. Is it used to assist the air wedge or is it an opening tool.

Also this tool is a great tool to have. We use a wire too but its a "home made " one. This has a rubber coating which could prevent scratching either the paint work or the interior panels of the car.

It's called a one hand door jack. It's used for leverage to crete a small space to slide the air wedge in the door. It's easier than trying to slide the wedge in between the door and the frame.

Lockpicker69 you are not supposed to use an airbag tool on a car with frameless windows. In the U.S. alot of the little sports type cars don't have a frame that surrounds the window. The airbag can break them easily.

freakparade3 yes i am aware of that fact however, thank you for pointing it out.are you saying that the 2% of cars and trucks the kit cant open are the ones with framless windows ? if so then the kit is just getting better all the time.
