Master #29

Howdy I recently bough this lock off a friend at school for $2 I got home and tryed picking it (it has medium keyway wards) I can get the pick in barly and just fit a tension tool in, I have searched for information everywhere and found nothing I have some pictures here...


It says its a Master #29 I have never heard of this and I want to know if there are any security pins in there....Any help will be greatly apreciated, If I cant pick it soon Ill grind the support pins and open it up for inspections...oh and the plug is very loose (it moves about 2-3 mm)

Wow! That is a little unusual for a master What a keyway! You might need a pick with a thin and relatively straight shaft, or insert it at a slight angle. Raking this puppy might not be all that effective, but I sure would like to hear how you get it open so try really hard to get it before you disassemble it, please At first I was wondering why you would pay 2 bux for that, but now I can see

heheh you might be able to make a special tension tool for this keyway with a V in it to match the bottom part of the keyway or something. Tension will be really important if there are mushrooms in there. I have no idea if there are, but I try to treat any new lock as if it has mushrooms/spools If you assume they are there, you will never be surprised when they are!

That's a better view of the keyway than the previous pic I notice a shiny spot at the bottom of the keyway on the shell (is that the proper term, I am gonna have a look at the terms again) where a tension tool could be binding. I say this because I have a master that gives my tension tool some problems. I can pick it just fine, but I have to make sure the tension tool is not scraping on the bottom like that or the pins just won't set! I dunno if you are having that problem, that could be normal wear, but I figured I would mention it and possibly save you the troubles that I had

I would say your lock definately needs a good flushing and lubrication. When you open it, the lock is of course of removeabe core design. With the core removed you can easily give it a good cleaning.

the reason the torque tool is scraping is because the wards are preventing th proper use of the tool..you have to put it in on an angle between the middle wards..makes no difference on the pick though..that can still fit its just the tool that has problems..it definately needs some lubrication as Chucklz said.

Well thanks for the replys, I was picking it the other day and my home made pick (half diamond) tip broke off inside, I made a extractor and you guessed it, that broke too, mabey because I heated it to much....
So now I have all this crap it there, I was thikning of grinding the support bar things tht keep the lock together, and open it up open the cylinder and clean it all up see how the pins are, like see if they are security pins and all that so basiaclly clean it all up and restore it, give it a polish with a buffer and make it look heaps specky, the problem is, after I grind down those bar things what can I use to put it back together....I was thinking some big nails and then heating the tip and hitting it with a hammer to stop it falling out....Well thanks in advance

Give it a real good lube first. Then straigthen out a fishing hook, and try that as an extractor. You probably will be able to get your parts out without too much lock surgery.

thanks chucklz.. i used that advise to my pick out of the lock.. it was stuck not broken though.. still worked

Ooops, I should have tryed harder getting the stuff out, I have now grinded the locks support pins and its not really moving much, gona be a long process but when I do get it open I think I might just use a bolt and nut, I mean, Im only using it for pick practise, Im not gona put it on anything, and If I needed a lock to add security to I wouldn't use that for these reasons...

1.I dont have a key
2.I would need to pick it every time I want access, and knowing me I will probly brake another pick it there
3.That involves to much mork....Im lazy
