I was trying to open a jukebox for a friend of mine who owns a bar, so he could replace the light bulbs, as he lost the key. The juke box maintenance guy won't help him because they want him to upgrade to a newer, more expensive fee model, but he can't afford it. So, I'm trying to help him out.
Anyway, I picked it with my standard, unmodified Southord 7 pin tubular pick several times, but it would only rotate about 120 degrees to the right before hitting something inside. I heard it hit something metallic and stop dead, yet the door would not open. I rotated it back and forth, from the vertical "zero" point to 120 degrees right, but the door wouldn't budge. I even pushed and pulled on the door as I did this --- nothing. It wouldn't go left at all, and my friend verified that it should turn to the right (CW).
It's a standard 7 pin tubular lock, with the normal "cut" in the plug and in the housing, no center pin or anything out of the ordinary. There is only one "cut" in the housing, at the top, not at 90 degrees or anywhere else. It's on an NSM Digital Thunder jukebox.
Is there something special about this lock or mechanism I'm not aware of? Does it require a key, instead of a pick, for some reason? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
