The best pick case?

Just compared my older Peterson Tri-Fold to my pal's newer version... Looks like mine is all cowhide(I may be wrong) with the exception of the flap that covers the tops of the tools when folded... I guess that's why it has held up so well... Both cases are probably some of the best that you will find for this purpose, but after comparing the two, the cowhide seems like it will last longer and with less wear than the lambskin. I wonder why they do not offer this style anymore as I'd love to order another just like mine as a backup.

Don't know if this'll help, but the difference may be that you can get 3 different types of tri-fold... cowhide, lambskin and cowhide exterior with a lambskin interior... maybe your friend has a lambskin, or combination one? or maybe they do make them differently now

yea it sucks man, i have a tri fold my G-4 came in and i bought another tri-fold second edition (cow skin) and it is a little more heavy duty than the lambskin but not even close to the one you have

I just use my leather stitched pouch that came with my MPXS-14. The stitching came undone a little at the bottom, so now I wrapped the bottom in duct tape and it seems to work fine. It looks ghetto as all heck, but whatever. I think I also saw from SouthOrd's website that they sell wallets too. Screw that. I don't want the stitching to fall out of my wallet and have all my crap fall out. I suppose I could easily remedy that though with some more duct tape, assuming that I notice when the stuff starts falling out of my wallet. Umm... I need to get a good case for my picks . Oh, well, I guess I will just get a new set sometime in the future with more stuff and with a decent case.

I use a case from southord, it's for the 15 pc set, but I cram way more into it.

Same thing started happening on my Southord MPXS-14 case. I just got out a needle and some thread and sewed up the corners through the holes that already exist from the first stitching (making new holes with a small needle though 2 layers of leather is pretty tough on your hands )

i find myself in the same boat as ya'll looking for the perfect case. I've been trying to find something that's compact but keeps the picks organized. I often wear a vest and keep a few picks on the inside pocket, but it'd be nice to have something to put them in so they're not all over the place when i reach in to grab one. Kind of like a pickset pocket protector...nerdy I know...

I've just started using an old case that my wife had laying around for her eye glasses. I like it because the hard shell protects them from getting damaged, and it's easy to carry around. Here's a picture:

haha...I just grabbed a pen/pencil set box. Has a hard cover similar to the setup you have there.

I've been using a nylon-sided case that originally held a set of throwing darts. The loops hold my picks, while the pockets on the other side hold a few shims I've made. It's compact, thin, and completely enclosed, which does a nice job protecting the picks.

I saw a nice little case at Wal-mart, it's designed for carrying USB flash drives and it's made by case logic. It would fit in a back pocket and with a little bit of modification would hold some picks nicely. It's only five bucks so I'll look into it.

Brianpojo56: are you talking about this case? If so I know a simple modification that could keep it intact for months and pack it with tools.

Nope, the one I was looking at was a little bigger than a wallet and had a zipper. But that looks like a nice little case. (and that looks like one of those old roach clip keys, I don't really know why they would mention them in a book about locksmithing, but both books I've read have made an honorable mention of the roach clip key )

I saw a SD memory card case with a zipper less than half the size of a wallet at Walmart right around five dollars. This case is for a flash drive from Walmart at around 6 dollars. Take pictures of the mod you do and let us all see.

I don't know about any roach clip keys. This key is for the knife edge and screwdrivers built into it. I retired my roach case for something I use more frequently. One guess what it is stuffed with.

i'm partial to cigar boxes/cases.

you can find promotional tins and small boxes that are a very nice size, although i keep my most used picks in a center split tube (pull the top off, see the pick end, pull out what you want) and a few smaller ones in a credit card sized plastic mint case from quitplan in my wallet.
