I hope you realise car locks are double sided wafers?.....I have never tryed but I think they would be tricky to re key...another thing some keys a laser cut, and that can't be done with any file, also, car locks are very sensitive, infact if you were to put a key blank into a car lock, it has a chance of breaking the lock.... ....So yes....just making sure you know this stuff....

That might get a bit tricky.
I have a couple of vauxhall locks and to rekey them wouldn't be too difficult so long as you had the correct wafers which I assume are manufacturer specific.
You're probably best asking around you're local vauxhall dealers although it may turn out to be expensive!

Cheer's guys, i was going to go to the local car breakers to get a set of locks, but as iv already got the ignition key and dont want to have to mess with that due to having to reprogram the transponder in the key fob as this can also be expensive i think, i thought id try and rekey the other locks.. im going to goto Vauxhalls and ask about a new set of wafers or try one of my locksmith suppliers.. maybe they can hel.. just thought id ask u, my friends on LP101..
Anymore ideas and id love to hear them..
Cheers...

When the lock went do-lally on my old escort (Mk V with transponder) a friendly 'smith showed me that the transponder receiver was a "ring" around the cylinder itself.
The Ford dealer quoted me about £600 excl. VAT!). He took the old cylinder and re-keyed a new one to suit (this was the Ford TIBBE style) lock and charged me about £35 quid to cover the cost of the cylinder - I had to re-fit it myself but he even talked me through it.
The ignition lock one a Vauxhall may have the same arrangement, in which case you don't have to worry about renewing the cylinder - just re-programming the new ignition key (Fords are supplied with a red key that works for this).
I can only comment about my old Ford though - Mad Mick is probably your man regarding cars

Not that your asking... but I got all the details for dupping a Mazda MX-5 Miata transponder key with an immobilizer. It is possible to add new transponders if you have one working key without the dealer.
You'll find losing all the keys will require the immobilizer serial number and a dealer to call in for a unique immobilizer bypass code that can be entered via the key switch.
The info is frequently available on the Miata users forum and does not contain enough information to comprimise the system to a 'would-be' thief.
Perhaps good material for an advanced forum?

this might be a bit too late but i have only just joined your forum, but i have been doing vehicle locksmithing for a few years,
If your vectra key is of the horseshoe type meaning comes apart in 2 pieces, one piece with the blade looks like a horse shoe and holds the transponder chip in and the other piece being the remote part and battery for it, you can easily buy new blades swap chips over use the same remote fob, therefore no expensive diagnostic work required.
Vaux laser discs are all numbered and very easy to re key
Let me know if you need more specific detail on any vehicle related probs
Happy to help

Hi secondcity, thx for the info, so is it easy enuff to rekey the ignition barrel and is it easy to get the wafers in the first place?? i think it is the horseshoe type.. also i need to decode the other locks! would it be better to employ an auto lockie to do the job??
Can i pick it.. Yes i can.. Err.. well, i'll have a go!!

I guess you didn't read the PM I sent to you early August?
would it be better to employ an auto lockie to do the job??
If you are comfortable with taking things apart (as most lock pickers are) then it's a walk in the park.
PM me a pic of the key, along with your address, and I'll send you the wafers (and some spare springs. ) to rekey your Vectra. Just let me know how many locks you are doing...the ignition barrel is the easiest, but why would you want to rekey the ignition if you are able to drive the car? This key is obviously recognised...just rekey the other locks and get the original key cloned. I think Curtis keys are cloned from the original, without the need for Dealer programming.
HTH,
Mick.
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!
