There are many threads on here about where to search for locks, best places to buy them, etc. But these generally dont include the chance finds. So, what was your biggest find when looking for locks? It could be finding a bag of padlocks, finding a hardware store going out of business, or really anything. How many locks did you get, what kind of lock, and at what cost.

I hate you.

Although in all seriousness, if you still have any and want keys cut for them, let me know.

Ebay - guy didn't know how the driverless cam locks operated, so he offered them up as "lock parts" rather than locks.

MBI - I sold off a bunch at the Dutch Open for a Euro per. I also used to give them away to friends a lot. Only have 3 or 4 left of the collection.

Oh? Can you do double-cut Biaxial keys by any chance?

Got a new Kaba Gemini with all the hardware and two original keys for like $11 shipped, still had the $52 sticker on the box.

Not the best deal, but hey it was a single lock and new.

In one day I got a used 5 pin medeco biaxial mortise cylinder, a zeiss Ikon mortise cylinder, 4 cheapo rim cylinders, an abloy 65/40 (new) and a scorpion cx-5 with keys, never used demo model, .. think I paid somewhere around $20- $25 for everything.

(from two locksmiths, and a Restore)

Sargeant-Greenleaf safe dial ready to mount, everything but the backplate; Medeco 5 pin pinned cylinder, no keys; Ace rim lock alarm switch, keys. For the price of asking for lockpoicking and manipulation practice 'stuff' at a family owned lock and safe shop. Gave'em $20 afterward 'for lunch'. Nice people.

Ok, back from another trip to the ReStore in Springfield, MA This time I even went down the aisle where about 100 old house doors are lined up to see if any locks were worth pulling. Nothing good there, so made a bee line for the lock area.

This weekends score was an American Lock 7 pin tubular cam lock new in bag with keys, a Schlage B160P deadbolt new in box with cylinder and keys, a Russwin keyed knob with key, 6 4-pin no name metal cam locks with keys, and a set of Schlage SC22 wafer keys but no lock to go with them.

all told, $11.25, the Russwin knobset with key was $1.50 because it was missing the interior knob and strike mechanism.

Boston ReStore Review

Postby Squelchtone » 15 Oct 2011 13:32

Went on a mission today to the Boston area Habitat for Humanity ReStore in West Roxbury on 1580 VFW Parkway, and it was a total waste of time.

This store has more NEW stuff than Home Depot and the prices are way jacked up, because their main mission is to raise money for poor people, instead of selling old used crap for cheap to help those who cannot afford brand new doors, windows, appliances, tools, etc.

Their lock selection was pathetic, so dont even bother going. I think I must have counted 10 Schlage passage sets, and some more no name passage sets. The single sided new in package Kwikset deadbolt had a sticker on it for $17.99, I laughed.

I found a LORI jimmy proof lock with 5 pin rim cylinder for $3.99 but the quality sucks so bad compared to a real Segal or Yale jimmy proof.

They had things in there like a newish dresser and mirror for $600, I couldn't believe how "upscale" they made ReStore for all the uppity Boston people who only visit the place so they can say the volunteers or helped out the poor.

There is another organization called Boston ReStore but they only sell to schools and low income families.. not sure how they managed to get the name ReStore as well, so heads up to anyone who contacts them, they do not sell to the public.

totally disappointed,
