Best pick for padlocks?

Well, I just registered. Correct me if I put this in wrong section.

Came across some lock picking videos on Youtube, and searched my way to this site =)

Finding my smal Abus padlocks hard to open with safety pins/hair clips etc. I was planning to make a couple of picks with my genuine dremel ^^

So just wondering what would be the best picks (and size/material) for padlocks, since thats the only thing I got for practice...

Was planning to make 1-5 picks tomorrow so If anyone got a quick response it would be great.

I also found the templatessticky, so it would be enough just to give me a material/size tip and what sorts of picks that would be best for small/madium sized padlocks.

hook picks are the are the most recommended type of picks for pin tumbler type locks, make a few hook picks of varying sizes although a medium sized hook pick is as big as you'd wanna go, and once you've made a pick or two change things up a bit, think how the pick is interacting with the pins and see if you can make any improvements on them.

Oops forgot to mention the basics lol

theres a number of metals to choose from e.g hacksaw blade (this is the most commonly used metal) also a few members have had good picks made from wiper blade inserts.

also very important make a good few tension wrenches of varying sizes

If you are new to lockpicking I'd recommend getting a basic starter kit (8/11/14 piece are all good). You might also want to start with something easier than an ABUS lock (especially if it is the Diskus ).

If you really want to make your own picks, high-carbon spring steel is great, but budget options include wiper blade inserts, hacksaw blades, and street sweeper bristles.
