Leaver Lock Question

Hi all,

just wondering about leaver locks - is the locking bolt always at the back of the lock or is there a chance that it could be in the middle of the leavers.

are there any brands of leaver lock with two locking bolts?

The bolt is at the back if mounted on a left hand door but obviously at the front if mounted on a righthand door. Never seen one with a bolt in the middle.
You get 2,3, and 5 lever locks or mortice locks as we call them over here. The thing to look for is a curtain, which is a little 3/4 circular piece at the top of the keyway. Most locks with this curtain will have 5 levers but there are a few exceptions. 2 and 3 lever locks are a very easy opening with to wires or a 2 in 1 pick or even jigglers, which is why they should be fitted to internal doors only really.

I guess that's what I was looking for - I've become a newbie again because I've never picked a leaver lock before. :oops:

what I meant was the part that you apply tension to is always in a particular spot, you don't have to go feeling arround to find it.

not sure what you mean by curtain toomush, but then I've not seen that many leaver locks...

I've got an old furnature 2 leaver lock that I can open by looking at it funny.. so going out to buy a 3 or more leaver one if I can find one on the weekend and I was just reading up on them to prepare myself.

right if the bolt is to the right then the piont you have to put the tension on will also be to right. ( if the lock has a barrel and curtain, then on most locks the curtain is where you put the tension, although there are some exceptions to this. also you will need a bs lock pick to pick this type of lock)
a barrel and curtain lock has a silver bit in the key hole, called a barrel the key sits in this as it is turned. the curtain is a disk that is attached to the barrel its perpose is to block the key hole when a key is turned in the lock
