The number 16777215 is a hexadecimal 'FFFFFF', which could be a negative 1, and most likely represents garbage in the master file record.

It most likely represents garbage in the master file record.

In other words, there was probably a bug in the computer program which did the "signup" function at that time, which put some garbage data in the user's master record when he signed up. It was probably noticed around three months later and fixed. However, nobody ever cleared the garbage to zero, and so it persists.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I just got back from a 2 week vacation. This is an AWESOME lock to learn some more advanced picking on (no spool pins but I think it's just as tricky). I can now consistently pick this lock to the sheer line. I just can't seem to push the pins down far enough for the control key jig. The lock is too stiff and when I apply pressure to set them at the control line I REALLY need to push down. This lock shows it's age quite well. I'd rather just open it without taking the core out than bending my picks. I got the technique down pretty well, and for those who are interested here's how I do it:

- use light to moderate tension, just enough to set those stiffer pins at the back (they are troublesome for me, tension is quite delicate here - too little tension and they don't set, a TINY bit more and you can't push them down anymore)
- I use a nice long medium/deep hook pick and I SPP them SLOWLY (push those bastards down real nice and slow, that way you have a lot more control how far you are pushing them - I barely push them in, maybe a mm or two tops, but this depends on how the lock is keyed I guess)
- I start with the front pins and move to the back, and then back to the front again until I set all of them
- for some reason, raking doesn't work. Just SPP real slow.
- THE LOCK OPENS

I'll give that special tension wrench a go when I have some time to kill.

Well to be more clear raking right off the bat doesn't seem to work. Raking to set that last stubborn pin or two quickly after you set everything else works well. I just shot a quick video because I had nothing better to do right now, I'll post a youtube link once it's done uploading.

Its not a matter to me about the glitches in my post log. Big deal. My point is that there is very little chance this lock was picked to the shear line of the basic key.

Odds of 10.000 to 1. 6 times 6 with some of the clearances between a single pin stack of less than 1/2 a pencil lead? Muliply that by 6 pin stacks? 1000s of shear lines. And you hit the the gopher key?

A2s are a tough nut to crack. Not a chance you picked it. With all due respect, you are blowing smoke. My pants dont have that particular straw placed in the seat at the time of purchase.

maxxx, it is your loss if you don't believe that the lock can be picked. I'm not saying it is piece of cake to pick it, but it is pickable.

Or should I provide some propability calculations of a disc detainer lock (millions of possibilities for a key) and yet I can pick it in 2-3 minutes?

Haha, watch the video maxxx. As you can see I got it open on my first try. OK maybe it was possible to bullsh*t a picture but I can't fake a video. It's not an easy lock but it's not like you make it to be.

Pretty cool feeling isn't it ady? I'm going to have to check out that video next time I hit the bookshop with my notebook. I don't have one of these things I can SPP in less than 5 mins on a good day. I'm curious to see how long it takes you to pop it. Wonder if the audio is good enough I can hear the sets...

Maxxx, not to beat a dead horse, but it is pickable. A keyways being medium. B's pretty manueverable, and G being the easiest I've picked. I've even got an S that I have SPP'ed a number of times. It was no accident, but it isn't a picnic either. Definately not jamming a rake into it and sawing away until it pops. You could saw all day and maybe not get it. You should try your hand at one. On ebay they practically give away the ones that don't come with keys. You might be suprised to find they are more readable than it seems.

Cool, it's neat to hear a gentle pin set. Sometime it makes me cringe to hear the SNAP when they force the pin into bible. Everytime I try to shoot one I realize I sigh every 2 seconds like an old man, so I try not to judge. :lol:
