The best places to go in the LA area are 2600 or Defcon meetings. In LA specifically these are LA2600 and DC213. Irvine Underground also has meetings, but I have not attended any (too far :/)

If you let me know in advance I can try to meet up with you at LA2600, depends how my schedule goes, but usually OK if you give me a heads up.

that Ca is attempting to restrict the trade, might be in detriment to potential locksport groups, but it is a direct attempt to thwart the vast number of scam operators bringing the trade to disrepute.

Perhaps the goal of LSI there, should be to encourage a group formed by and of licensed locksmiths, with the intent to discuss and train participants with tools and resources that are seen to be legal in legislature's eyes.

if you become a member of an LSI group there and you have credentials able to be verified by a licensed operator....I see no problem...but the Ca legislature are the ones to please. (IMO)

I'm in Simi Valley (Just north of LA)-I'd love to be part of a club. I've actually no real experience, but it's something I've been interested in for the last 10+ years. Anyways-if we can get something together that would be great.

Hi I live in So Cal north of you in Tehachapi, (Home of the train ) this area needs to know about locks. I was talking to a older man this morning, he was all excited about all his new Dead bolts he just spent his life savings on, after all the High secutity bolts where unpickable  In short if you ever get anything going I would be interested maybe even a tehachapi chapter (they can call us the farm pickers.

It's about a 45 minute drive (30 if you haul ass), but LA2600 should have what you are looking for (not specifically lockpicking, more technology/etc oriented). If you can go in September, let me know and I can meet you there.

Given friday afternoon traffic it's probably close to an hour. Still, I've often thought about driving down to LA2600... I didn't know they dealt with locks as well (though I should have realized it). I'll see about getting to the next meeting-that should be the 2nd right? I'd be happy to meet people there.

Have any of you all moved forward with a group in LA yet?

I'm relatively new to the sport of lock picking and It would be a great resource to have folks to trade hardware with and meet on a bi-monthly, monthly, or hell, a tri-yearly basis.

I've been screwing around with locks for the past 8 or 9 months, but have really become serious about it over the last two months. It's really one of my only hobbies outside of work, thus I've em-massed a $hit load of locks and various pick sets, tools, etc in a short amount of time. When I get interested in a hobby, I dive in head first. Luckily I've stuck with this one ($$$).

I'd be interested to know if you guys/gals ever got a group of some sort together.

Link for DefCon group should be DC213.org, not DC123.org.

Additionally, "As of September 2009, DC213 has been temporarily combined with the LA2600 meeting until we can find a new home. "

Hope that clears things up!

DC213 is dead, just go to LA2600 instead. I am usually there and lately JK has been there, too. The next meeting is this Friday, in fact.
