Fantasy products you'd like...( NOT SPAM!)

What are the products you'd like to stock, but don't (apparently) exist yet?

I thought I'd mention two...

The first, I think we all need. Aspcial cream that you could rub on your forehead in the mor5ning and all day long you would be able to read people's minds and see into the future, as everyone seems to think I already use it! I guess we all get that though...

The second product I'd like to nominate is actually serious and a good idea. It probably does exist somewhere as it's such a good idea, but I've never actually seen a commerical one.

On a factory yard near here, there is a 4" x 4" x 4" box that is roughly welded out of some scrap steel flooring sheet. It is open only at the bottom and is welded onto the gates as a "hood" over the padlock on the gates. Makes opening the padlock a bit fiddly, but actually slows down any break-ins quite effectively. The hood stops prybar attacks very well and slows down attack by angle grinder by perhaps a couple of minutes. Simple, but it works. They have been attacked several times and even though it is only a fairly basic Master padlock, the thieves have never got through it once. Last time they tried ripping the gates off and have now given up attacking the padlock altogether.

getting in

Postby raimundo » 29 Aug 2008 7:09

Someone really wants to get in there. In such a situation, a video camera well mounted back from where it can be bumped off angle or hooded or otherwise tampered with is the solution I would reccommend. I don't think you have trouble with a lot of various thieves, I think you have one thief obsessed with something you have in there. If you hook a camera up, you will probably recognize him when he appears. get the kind that has infrared and don't make its installation obvious, put it where he'll not notice it while hes on camera. And of course save video to a hard drive. some kind of motion detector or critter cam would do it.
hooded shackles are a very good idea, combined with shrouded padlocks or a hockey puck lock.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
