Plastic Picks?

Postby Ashweedo » 30 Aug 2008 0:11

Is it possible to make or create plastic picks out of a high density polymer? Sheet metal/hacksaw blades are not readily available so i am unable to make picks and tension wrenches.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sure you could make them, but what would be the point. They would break very easily and probably start leaving little shavings of plastic in the lock and wearing them down. So you could, but why would you?

Standard lock picks made out of plastic? Yes, I know of people who have made them from credit cards and such. I tried, but while they worked they worked poorly. I even tried to make one out of linen micarta from a knife handle scale. I had high hopes for it, but it was crap.

There is actually a place selling carbon fiber picks. I remember seeing it in a link a few weeks ago. I don't know that I would buy from the place because it looked pretty shady, but if I run into it I'll repost.

plastic

Probably someone has tried, the quality of the plastic, durability, stiffness, etc are issues, but since there are plastic windshield wiper stiffeners in an extruded form, that could be adapted to the bi lock keyway, its still worth a try. perhaps because its plastic, the surface could be shined with heat. sorta like you can do with wax.

I am kind of wondering as to why you would want a set of plastic picks? Also how is it that you do not have acess to hacksaw blades or other pick making materials? Surely you have a hardware store located somewhere within a 100 mile radius, and if not there is always Walmart (I think Walmart have even opened stores in heaven and hell).

I'm not trying to be negative, more like... informative. But I don't believe that video demonstrates the type of technique & difficulty of lock that most members here could benefit from.

But I could be wrong. If that offends you I apologize. :)
