See The Lock?

How do you open the lock to where you see nothing but inside the lock. Like rip a side off of it to see what's inside the lock without breaking the lock?

That's 7 posts in this section in the last week. It's time to learn how to search for the answers on your own. Search function is a good place to start. Starting a new thread to ask every question that pops into your head is unneccesary.

I assume you are talking about a cutaway lock. That's where I would start the search.

Disreguard my serious attitude problem. I'm a jerk.

Google advanced search brought me to

http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?p=277640
http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=30564
http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=11334
http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=11454

It's always my first stop for searching the site if I can't remember where I saw something.

Those are just the first of a few good cutaways that popped up. Of course you can see that many are made with industrial machinery, but you can make one with only hand files and a hacksaw. Just be aware that a hacksaw is not exactly a precision insturment so any cut you make is going to have to be cleaned up with a file. Good luck with it.

I would know how but how does someone make a cut away lock? I mean like what instrument? You can't use a welder I wouldn't think eh?

Ok, before you over think it too much or go down the wrong path, here is a website run by one of the lp101 members.

He is a picker, cutaway maker and prolific collector of locks and cutaway locks.

His blog, Making the Cut, is a great place to see hi-res pics of the process of making a cutaway, many of them made by Mitch himself.

If you are specifically interested in the tools used, his Medeco cylinder article will explain the process very well:

Is there a way I can donate to the site. Because that just made me wet myself.
