Noob 1st day and need help

ok guys i just got my southord MPXS-14 set and after reading a couple of things i tried some locks. i gave up on my bedroom door, but i did open 2 locks or my friends one was some WB crap lock and one was a newer master lock i opened both in about 30 secs. but now i have this little master lock about 1 inch by 1 inch and i cant open it for the life of me. im not raking, I go pin by pin and i could swear i got them all up but the thing wont open. any tips on how to open this lock. and how i can open my bedroom door????

Well you could pick you bedroom door, and read the mit guide and practice.

Sometimes those little locks can drive you mad! As far as the bedroom lock some details would be helpful. Tension plays a big part in picking. I have an american padlock that has 4 pins, none of them spools or serrated, but I could never pick it open. I figured I would find serrated top pins causing my problems when I tore it apart out of frustration, but it had a high/low/high/low biting that I could not get. Don't give up and just try different tensions.

the master padlock you mentioned sounds like a No.140 which has spool or mushroom pins (i can't remember what kind security pins anymore).

you probably have to go back to read the MIT guide again on those security pins section.

its a master No 130

and my bedroom door is just a simple door knob lock like u would see at neiborhood** pool or something

Are you sure a master no. 140 has spool pins? Im holding a 140 right now, and it only takes me 2 seconds to pick it..using a half diamond, i was under the impression that spools would make picking a bit more time consuming..

Hmm, from what i see the 140 just has normal pins. This thing is a cheap piece of crap that even a newby could open on their first day of picking. Maybe you were thinking of something else CaptHook?

Nope, its got spools. You just have an easy one. Buy another and give it a go, look for a more difficult bitting on the key.

Well here are my findings on the 5 x Master 140s I bought the other day, having read all this fuss about spools in 'em.

- One of the 5 appears to have no security pins.
- Two of them appear to have just one spool at position 3
- Two of them appear to have 2 spools (one having spools at 2 and 3 and the other at 3 and 4)

- They all have a tendency to set front to back but I've gotten too quick at opening them now so I'm trying to see if I can force them open picking back to front....interesting challenge. I can do it with the 0 and one of the 1 spool locks but haven't managed to pull it with the 2 spool locks.

- I find that extremely light tension does the trick for all of them and varying the tension while setting the spool pins helps a great deal but I think that the tolerances in these locks are great enough that you could pretty much set the pins in whichever order you like with enough practice...

Anyway, those are my findings so far. I might get the drill out and see if I'm right on my pin assessments but I'm pretty sure I'm on the money.
