Schlage Keyway

Postby logosys » 2 Aug 2004 2:04

Does anyone by any small chance have (or have the ability to attain) the dimensions on the Schlage Keyway that is used in the SC-4? It comes down to a matter of 64th's of an inch or smaller, and m caliper isn't that precise. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

SC-4 is the exact same keyway as SC-1, just longer.

Does anyone have the dimensions for a SC-1 Keyway then?

Grab an SC-1 keyblank from the local hardware store and you're in business! Just measure the outside and you should be close enough for most purposes. :) Sorry if I am being "Captain Obvious". :) I am not sure what you need the measurements for...

the problem is, I still ahve to measure the keyblank. My Caliper isn't accurate enough to do so, and I can't measure the angles on that keyway, so I'm stuck. I was hoping someone else (perhaps with a better caliper) could measure the thing for me...

Could I suggest that for whatever reason you want these precise measurements that you may want to acquire a factory original keyblank instead of an aftermarket?

Also, you may try contacting Schlage customer service via their webpage - they don't always have a lot of information about their product, but I've been pleasantly suprised on a couple of occasions.

Short of buying some new calipers and maybe a lock, I would take the advice above and get a hold of schlage support! Why didn't I think of that? ;)

(Thanks, lockmistress!)

They won't give me the dimensions because it is "restricted information" I don't want material specs or test specs, I just want to know how wide the things are! Ok, now I really need you guy's help!

Yeah, it's so restricted that they put it right on the front of every keyway they make! :) If I had some decent calipers and some restricted keyways to measure, this would make me want to release detailed measurements of as many as I could... Not to give you any ideas, of course! ;) This BS doesn't increase security, it just pisses off potential customers. I am sure you can probably pick the lock already, and if you are making some special tools, they could be done by trial and error and still get a perfect fit!
(Look at how well impressioning works!)

I don't have any use for the measurements at the moment, but now I want them just because I cannot have them! :D

Restricted keyway, my @$$! If you want a key, just find a keyblank that is close enough and dremel fit it to the lock. Then cut/file your bitting and you're in business!

Restricted? Since when?

, now I have to call these idiots and give them hell for being morons.
When I asked for it last, I got an envelope so jam packed full of stuff, it had to be weighted three times.

Give me a day or so.
