The Greenwald Ultraguard lock

Postby timothyx » 2 Aug 2004 15:36

Can anyone tell me if getting this the Greenwald Mini Pick is actually worth while getting? or if perhaps there might be a better one on the market, or, if someone could point me in the way of making my own.

I've ordered a tubular 7 & 8 pin set, as I'm going to practice on some of the locks I've got on hand. But I want to try doing a Greenwald Ultraguard on the laundry machine downstairs thats broken in my apt building, I was given permission by the caretaker to try it until it goes in for repairs, and it looks signifigantly tough, and I am all up for the challenge.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Those prices were a little crazy($269.95, for a tubular pick)
Do you own a set of picks? I would suggest investing in those first. That spy stuff is alot of hype somtimes.

I thought so too, I've found some decent places, but this one seems to be the best so far.

The new style SouthOrd Tubular pick will have enough tension to open the greenwald.

thanks that is what I thought it was. I heard picking an abloy is extremely hard to do (I just bought some machines at an auction that has these installed but with no key) BUT I also saw a pick that said it would open "Greenwald UltraGuard" locks. I havent seen what a Greenwald UltraGuard looked like and am assuming that they have tubular locks instead of this one pictured. Anyways thanks for all your help !!!

Looks exactly the same as the ones on the washing machenes in my plex. Although I'm not sure how the half-moon shape of the opening works. Anyway, they claim to be "Greenwald Industries Ultraguard," if you believe the faceplates.

greenwald

One type of greenwald lock has an offset keyhole guard, so that the key has to have a slim neck, and the pick also has to have this, if you see a loophole above the keyhole, that looks like the euro profile for a lock, but is in fact a key access over the lock, you will need the special pick. this can be made by soldering a key barrel onto a screwdriver handle, or you can buy the one from steve arnolds gun room, do not expect to have an easy pick if you have no experience, but as long as you work it without getting into brute force and stupidity, it will eventually open them and if as you say, you have a number of them , as you open them, you will learn to do it and become your own expert.
