First picks

I often read about picking but never tried it so i made a improvised set from window washers yesterday.
Iv'e opened 3 padlocks and my own front door (i need better security) it was a great feeling .

they look pretty good...ide imagine it would be kinda odd to manipulate the picks with tension wrenches on the ends but other than that they look pretty decent...

Those look very nice. did you meant windshield wiper inserts? Ive never heard of window washers that looked like that...

Just a tip; dont pick locks in use, or you might break them. every now and then a thread pops up with a title like "you guys were right..." because someone broke their lock on their front door.

You should probably take of a bit more metal by the tang of picks like the 3rd from the right. When you're trying to set high-set's in the back that corner might get in the way and lift up some pins in the front. Make it like you're 3rd from the left hook.

What kind of padlocks did you pick?

Like said before, I also recomend that you don't pick locks in use.. or unless you have a backup lock that can replase the broken lock.

Not bad for first time picks, I would suggest however that you smooth them out a bit more in order to prevent damage to the pins and keyway. The sharper the edge on your pick, the more likely the chance of damage in the long run.

Also I agree with Trip Doctor, you should take off the metal a bit more such as in Pick #3, This will prevent the accidental setting of the front pins while you pick the back ones.

And as always, don't pick your own house locks, unless you also plan on learning how to fix them!

I also would also recommend a good polishing,
but if they work for you, there good.
