COMBINATION LOCK DECODING

Postby SUBJUGATOR » 18 Nov 2008 11:02

A co-worker mentioned that he forgot the combination to the lock he recently bought for his gym locker. So I offered to take a look at it. I happened to have some combination lock shims at home. So once I got it home I lifted the shackle, inserted the shim, then gave a quick push down and pull up and voila, open lock. Pretty scary he trusts his valuables to this lock. Then I got out my ottoscope from my first aid. (I have an extremely complete first aid kit.) An ottoscope is what your general practitioner uses to look in your ear. I then kept dialing until I had all the gates lined up. I then kept dialing the combination each time but adding to all the numbers each time (so the gates would line up where they were supposed to, instead of under the hole for the shackle.) Soon I had the number. The second attempt at decoding a lock took me just a few minutes. Now maybe there is a faster way but this worked pretty well for me.

That's a pretty fast and good way to do it with those locks. If you have fairly good eyes and a flashlight you can actually do it without the ottoscope.

I used to add 14 or 15 to what ever combo I could see through the hole. Check and see if that is the direct route and let me know.

The inside of these locks has been redesigned a bit and now there are plastic washers or something in there.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

the way i do it is i just look for something odd around each side
i do not use an autoscope. and it is fairly easy to open combo
padlocks. i use my hands and sometimes ill use a shim to feel any
inconsistency.

The ones with three or four dials down the side go pretty quick, all you have to do is put pulling tension on the shackle, find the "binding" dial and find the notch. you do get false sets as you do in pin tumbler lockpicking but is still pretty easy when you know how. I got a friend of mine to set the combonation and write it down discretely until I knew that I could open it.
Good Luck and Happy NDE.

Scott.
